Our 6th day on dirt... Not really though, because after some 30k we got tarmac today, which was an unexpected but nice surprise for most riders! And the early morning dirt road was in good condition, making today’s 127k ride not too hard...
At 30k we passed the town Bethanie, where they had Namibia’s oldest church (1899) and a proper coffee shop with drinks and cakes. Both were worth checking out :-) and all riders took over the little coffee shop. Because the distance was not too long and the ride not too hard, it was nice to have a long old fashioned cokestop again :-) We surely took our time :-)
The ride after the cokestop was not too exciting, but the last 30k were amazing, riding through canyon like terrain. We ended the day at Seeheim, which used to be a diamond prospector town with a hotel, a casino and a brothel. Diamond fever has disappeared a long time ago and the brothel and casino are gone too, but the hotel and the old railway are still there :-) And we camped at the grounds of the hotel, in the middle of the desert :-)
So good day today! Two days on Namibian gravel left!
